Thanksgiving...

By far, my favorite holiday of all is Thanksgiving. I know, most Christians would say that Christmas and/or Easter is their favorite. While I do love both of those holidays...my favorite of ALL holidays is Thanksgiving. I love the fall season and I love the crispness of the air. I love the beautiful colors. I love the scripture found in Ecclesiastes that says "To everything there is a season..." I love that at Thanksgiving time everyone 'appears' to be thinking of others.

During the Christmas season...and Easter, too..., the world is so busy thinking about materialistic things that the Reason for the season is often lost.

We've had good things happen to us during the Thanksgiving season...24 years ago this year, our beautiful baby girl was born. She would be the last of 4 amazing kids and she was/is spoiled rotten. We love her dearly. She was born on Tuesday before and we brought her home on Thanksgiving. She has been an amazing blessing to our family. Two years ago on the Tuesday before Thanksgiving, we lost my father-in-law...on our daughter's birthday. That was a double whammy! It has been a tough couple of years for our daughter. Not only did she lose one of her grandpa's but it was on her birthday! She doesn't want to celebrate her birthday anymore. She must learn to live with what happened and know that Grandpa would not want her to stop celebrating HER life just because his ended.

Thanksgiving has been good and bad for our family over the years. But overall, Thanksgiving is a time for us to reflect on those blessings that have been bestowed upon us by our Creator. No, it isn't always easy celebrating when it is a time of remembering the death of a loved one BUT it is always worth celebrating the goodness of God.

God is a good God and He has given each of us a reason to be thankful. So...as we go into this Thanksgiving season, please take a moment to reflect on the goodness of God. After all, we do not deserve the blessings God has given us, yet He gives them freely anyway!
